High Eolic word of the day: mattúc

mattú- (intransitive verb), imperfective mattúc: to decide (that), to intend (to).

len mattú-ndá tayat lungatettárut rúlengemec
we decide-COMPL earlier wedding.ILL.DEF summer.INESS
“we have decided for the wedding [to take place] before summer”

Although mattúc is technically intransitive (in terms of the morphology it takes), it often acquires semantic complements with the addition of a relevant noun in the illative, as demonstrated in the example above. Several other verbs exhibit such behavior, such as yangarac ‘to hang (from)’ and nírcav ‘to study, learn (of)’.
