High Eolic word of the day: curá

curá (noun): nearby, present, close; here, located nearby.

“[those] near [to him will] hear the king’s words the best”

curá behaves technically as a noun, and is not usually used in an adverbial sense, where the adverb carnat ‘nearby’ is preferred to productive constructions such as curámec (curá in the inessive, marking location). Although the latter does occur, it is mostly limited to certain dialectal forms, especially some more conservative Highland dialects. In general, curá occurs as a standalone noun (as in the example above), or as an attributive (as in párunda-curá-sut ‘the nearby house’).
