High Eolic word of the day: tanácam

tanár- (transitive verb), imperfective tanácam: to leave, abandon (a person or place).

taná-p tacal sána nundá mátan társettár
leave-PERF place.ACC REL give.birth.MID it.ANTESS rich.ILL
“[s/he] left the place of [his] birth in order to become rich”

The verb tanácam exhibits a general phonological rule in High Eolic whereby any of the consonants {y h l v t r} is elided root-finally if preceded by a long vowel and followed by a short vowel in an affix. This often obscures the actual form of verbal roots, which then generally only surface in imperative, perfective, and/or middle forms.
